"E.C. Jenkins, 79, formerly of 2515 St. Joseph Avenue., St. Joseph, died Saturday morning, March 24, 1990, at a local hospital following a brief illness.
Mr. Jenkins was born in Deepwater, Mo., and had resided in St. Joseph most of his life.
He was a clerk of the State Legislature in Jefferson City from 1930 to 1931 and a legislative postmaster for two years in Jefferson City. He was a deputy city clerk under Tom Lysaght and cigarette license inspector for the St. Joseph Finance Department. He was also a clerk for Board of health in the St. Joseph Health Department under Mayor Allison. He retired in 1976 as a sergeant with the St. Joseph Police Department after 25 years of service.
Mr. Jenkins, along with his wife, the former Helen E. Nold who preceded him in death on June 21, 1983, were income tax practioners who operated from their home from 1950 until 1983.
Mr. Jenkins was a graduate of Lafayette Grade and High School. He was a member of the Savannah Avenue Baptist Church of which he was a deacon emeritus and trustee. He was also a member of the Fraternal Order of Police.
Surviving: a daughter, Virginia A. Cundiff of St. Joseph; two grandchildren, Rodney M. Cundiff of St. Joseph, and Patricia A. Benitz of Brookfield, MO; three great-grandchildren; and two step great-grandchildren.
Private graveside service and burial: 10 a.m. Tuesday, Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation: 2 to 4 p.m. and 6:30 to 8 p.m. today and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Meierhoffer-Fleeman Funeral Home."
