With the death of her mother she was taken in by her grandmother (Agnes Mullen Foster) Living there per 1900 & 1910 census.
As an infant she fell off a table and broke her hip. The doctor wrapped the hip and left orders not to loosen the bandage but the infant cried so much that the family gave in and loosened the bandage. The hip healed incorrectly and left her with a limp.She became a telephone operator and got married in New York City (recollections of Eileen Carey Rakowski)
