Brown, Phyllis S., 65, died April 12, at the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H. She was born Jan. 29, 1941, in Vershire, the daughter of Walter and Hazel Aldrich Straw. She attended school in Post Mill and graduated in 1959 from Thetford Academy. On Aug. 16, 1959, she married Frank H. Brown Jr. They moved to Bradford in 1965 where they owned and operated the Browns-Plain Dairy Farm until 1989. Mr. Brown died on July 21, 2003. She had worked for the last 20 years for the U.S. Postal Service in many area post offices, the last 10 years at the Hanover Post Office in Hanover, N.H. She was a member of the Bradford Congregational Church. She is survived by daughters Brenda B. Cook of Proctor and Melanie F. Black of Burlington; a brother, Duane Straw of Vergennes; sisters Charlotte Brooks of Barre and Marilyn Williams of Ascutney; four grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

There are no public calling hours. A private graveside service will be held at a later date at the Sawyer Cemetery in Bradford. A time of fellowship and refreshment will be held Saturday, April 22, 2006, from 1 to 4 p.m. at the home of David and Rita DeGoosh in Fairlee. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association of Vermont, 30 Farrell St., South Burlington, VT 05403-9987. Arrangements are being handled by the Boardway & Cilley Funeral Home, Main Street, Chelsea
