Marilyn W. Hand of 40 Bedford Way, Portsmouth NH died February 25, 2010 at Portsmouth Hospital after a period of failing health. She was born March 1, 1926 in Dover, NH to Gladys (Straw) and Raymond Warren. She graduated from Dover High School in 1944. On September 11th 1949 she married Bill Hand and moved to Portsmouth, where she remained for the rest of her life. Bill was a fireman and she loved being a fireman’s wife. For many years she worked as a part time waitress and hostess but her main job was always her family. In her younger years she enjoyed traveling to Florida and Arizona. In later years she loved a bus trip to Foxwoods, lunch at the Dinnerhorn and a good cup of coffee with the many treasured friends that she had. She was a wonderful grandmother….always interested in the lives of “her girls.” In 2006 she was blessed with a great granddaughter, Riley that was the light of her life. She was predeceased by her parents, husband Bill, sisters Jackie and Betty and her brother-in-law Parker. She is survived by her children, Bill and Donna Hand of Portsmouth, and Susan and Ed Sczerba of Eliot along with her granddaughters, Heidi Hand, Amy Mullen, Kelly (Thomas) Krapf and great granddaughter Riley Mullen. She is also survived by Frank and Terry Hand of Tucson AZ and several nieces and nephews. The furry friends that she so loved to hear about Tek, Bobby, Knuckles and Grace. The family wishes to thank Dr. Pike, Dr. Dicks, the staff of Durgin Pines and the staff of Edgewood Center for their care and kindness…she loved you all. Visiting hours will be Monday March 1st from 5-7 pm at the J. Verne Wood Funeral Home, 84 Broad St., Portsmouth, NH. On Tuesday March 2nd there will be a service at J. Verne Wood Funeral Home at 11:00 am with Reverend Jeffrey D. Thornberg presiding.
