Lucie was the daughter of a cafe owner in France. Orlo and two of his ship mates frequented the cafe' and kidded each other about who was going to win the heart of the cafe owners lovely daughter. In June of 1918 Lucie and Orlo were engaged. She was now working as an interpreter for the US Army Salvage Department in Lambegellic, France. Soon after Lucie and Orlo were engaged, they married, and when the war ended he brought his beautiful little French bride home with him to America.
Lucy married Orlo Millard Higgins on 7 Aug 1919 in France.
