Straw, age 77, of Astoria, SD died Monday, February 18, 2013 at his home in Astoria.
A memorial service will be Thursday, March 7, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. in the Bethel Lutheran Church of Astoria, SD. Burial will be at a later date.
James Allen Straw was born June 5, 1935 in New York to Windsor and Pamela (Powers) Straw. In 1936 the family moved to Brookings, SD. James attended school in Brookings and graduated from Brookings High School in 1953. He then attended South Dakota State University.
On May 3, 1955 James married Elaine Lucas. They lived in Brookings and White, SD while James worked in Brookings. He graduated from SDSU in 1961. They moved to Inver Grove Heights, MN where James worked at Unisys as a computer programmer for 30 years.
In 1992 they moved to an acreage near Toronto, SD and then in 2003 they moved to Astoria, SD. James passed away at their residence there on Monday, February 18, 2013 at the age of 77 years, 8 months and 13 days.
James is survived by his wife, Elaine Straw; four children: Steven (Kitty), Peggy (Rick), Brian (Traci) and Bradley; grandchildren; great-grandchildren and one sister, Anne.
James is preceded in death by his son, Terry, parents, a sister, Susan and a brother, Howard

James married Elaine Mae Lucas, daughter of Lynn Elroy Lucas and Florence Michaelson, on 3 May 1955. (Elaine Mae Lucas was born on 18 Mar 1936.)
