When Clarence was six weeks old, the family moved to Franconia, where he lived for the rest of his life. His father died when he was 14. His mother was crippled with arthritis for many years and Clarence helped take care of her. He did most of the cooking while his mother gave directions from her wheelchair.
He and Lydia Kendall were married in her parents home on Church Street in Franconia and the couple moved across the street for the rest of their married life.
Clarence was a farmer and a laborer. He maintained Elmwood Cemetery and was greenskeeper at the Profile Golf Course.
His obituary states that he had many friends and that they regarded him as "a man whom one always likes to have around".
