Marie Hageman Straw a resident of Douglas died Jan. 14, 2010 at the Memorial Hospital of Converse County in Douglas.
She was born July 26, 1919 in Ulysses, Neb., the third child of Con and Blanche (Jones) Edwards. The Edwards moved to Converse County in 1923 and homesteaded 12 miles northeast of Douglas. In 1935, they left the homestead, and moved into Douglas for a few months before moving to Butler County, Neb. Marie returned to Douglas in 1937 and worked at the seed house for a few years. She was married to Carl F. Hageman on Aug. 6, 1940 in Harrison, Neb., and two sons were born to this union. They built a log cabin in the Walker Creek community, on the place where Carl's parents, who had come here from Michigan, had taken up a homestead in 1918. Marie and Carl cut and hauled the logs from the mountains, and Marie peeled them with a draw knife and Carl built a cute little two room cabin. They added on more rooms later, and Marie still lived there. Carl died May 9, 1978, and Marie was married to Robert M. Straw on Feb. 3, 1980 in Douglas, and they spent time in the summer at their homes in Wheatland and Douglas and winters in Arizona.

Marie was a member of the Congregational United Church of Christ, and also attended Walker Creek Sunday School and church services over the years. She also belonged to Walker Creek Homemakers Club, Converse County Cowbelles and the Wyoming Wool Growers Association.

She is survived by her sons Bob (Judy) Hageman and Joe (Darlene) Hageman; grandchildren T.J. (Cammy) Hageman, Tracy (Steve) Dilts, and Tiffany Hageman; great grandchildren Makayla Porter, A.J. Hageman, and Ty Hageman, all of Douglas; sisters Ella Robinson of Douglas, Pauline Parke of Lincoln, Neb. and Darlene Shrader of David City, Neb.; sister-in-law Lorna Edwards of Keeline; and many nieces and nephews
She was preceded in death by her father in May, 1955; mother on Dec. 7, 1970; her husbands, Carl on May 9, 1978 and Bob on Dec. 24, 1990; brothers, Raymond Edwards and Clyde Edwards; and sister, May Rose Edwards.
