Vera Elsie Straw
- Born: 25 Dec 1913
- Died: Cir 1914 about age 1
General Notes:
Research of Gregg Byers on Rootsweb: "Little Vera died of Scarlet Fever. The family was quarantined at the time. Walter stayed ouside so he could carry on his work. The only way he could see Estella and the babe was to come in at night by special permission. Estella had to carry on as best she could alone through this sad hour. Realizing the danger of the infection being carried by person, and knowing that the undertaker had little ones of his own, Estella insisted that he not come in. She took the coffin from him at the door, and all by herself prepared her little one for burial and laid it in the little coffin, closed it and carried it out to the waiting undertaker. She could not even go to the graveyard service. Fortunately, the other children did not get the disease."
