HOULTON, Maine '97 Miss Marie A. Straw, 89, of Houlton, Maine and formerly of Oneonta, N.Y., died Wednesday, May 24, 2000, at the Gardner Nursing Home, Houlton, Maine.
She was born April 21, 1911, in Jacksonville, New Brunswick, Canada, the daughter of Henry L. and Nellie (Burtt) Straw.
Marie was a secretary for A.O. Fox Memorial Hospital, Oneonta before her retirement. Her younger years were spent in Old Town, Maine, moving to Oneonta, N.Y., in 1930. In June 1979, she moved to Monticello, Maine. During her working years she also had worked for the Linn Trailer Corp., Oneonta, Elmira Milling Co., and the State University College at Oneonta.
While in Oneonta she was a member of the Main Street Baptist Church, Oneonta, as well as the church's sunshine class.
Marie is survived by several cousins, including Eugene and Mildred Burtt of Woodstock, New Brunswick, Canada, and Helen Mac Kenzie of Millincket, Maine.
Funeral services will be held 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, June 6, 2000, from the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main St., Oneonta, with the Rev. Gary Bonebrake, pastor of the Main Street Baptist Church, Oneonta, officiating.
Burial will be in the Oneonta Plains Cemetery, Oneonta, N.Y.
There will be no calling hours at the funeral home.
Funeral arrangements are by the Bookhout Funeral Home of Oneonta and Otego, N.Y.
