MANCHESTER — Doris M. Campbell, 77, of Readfield Road, died peacefully Sunday, Aug. 10, 2003, at her home surrounded by her family.
She was born in Upton, Mass., on July 8, 1926, the daughter of Walter and Lucy (Sadler) Burnham.
Doris grew up in Upton in her early years and later graduated from South Portland High School in 1943. She had worked at several financial institutions in Portland from 1943 to 1949.
On Aug. 30, 1949, she married her high school sweetheart, Bert Campbell.
She was a homemaker while her children were young and in 1963 they moved to Main Street, Winthrop, and in 1972 they moved to their home on Memorial Drive.
Doris worked for the State of Maine Department of Conservation, Motor Vehicles and the Bureau of Taxation. She also worked for the Legislature for several years. She was a member of the Rotaryannes in Winthrop for several years and enjoyed tole painting and stained glass.
She was predeceased by a brother, Gordon Burnham, on May 30, 1990.
She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Bert Campbell of Manchester; two sons, Stephen Campbell and his wife, Carolyn, of Waterville and Joseph Campbell of Mount Vernon; a daughter, Gail Straw and her husband, James, of Goffstown, N.H.; a brother, Walter Burnham and his wife, Dorothy, of North Grafton, Mass.; a sister Jean Amoroso and her husband, Ralph, of South Portland; five grandchildren, David Campbell and his wife, Meredith, of Merrimack, N.H., Meg Campbell of Waterville, Sarah Campbell of Guilford, Michelle Campbell of Mount Vernon and Nicholas Campbell of Lewiston.
Visiting hours will be private. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 13 at Roberts Funeral Home, 62 Bowdoin St., Winthrop. Private committal services will be held in Forest City Cemetery, South Portland.
