Edwin "Corky" Straw, 72, of Barronett passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 30, 2018 in his truck with his loyal dog, Pepper. He was on his daily trek for breakfast with friends at the Red Brick Cafe in Barronett. He was born October 6, 1945 in Shell Lake to Marvin and Alice (Jessup) Straw. He graduated from Cumberland High School in 1963. He enlisted in the US Marine Corps and served his country valiantly in Vietnam for 3 years, where he was awarded the Bronze Star. He returned to the family farm in Barronett and started his family, dairy farmed, drove milk truck and managed the Feed and Seed in Spooner. He farmed there until the present day. He was married in Barronett on July 2, 2000 to Kathleen (Ducommun) Smith. Corky was an avid deer hunter and enjoyed exploring America the last number of years with Kathy. His favorite "job" was being Papa to his beloved grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Kathy of Barronett; 3 children: Charlotte (Allen) Hopkins of Houston, TX, Victor (Gina) Straw of Hudson and Marvin (Mandy) Straw of Cumberland; stepchildren: Joyce (Bill) Wallace of McFarland, Christine Boreen of Madison and Terri (Dan) Lobner of Milwaukee; 10 grandchildren: Baylee, Gabriel, Brody, Tia, Campbell, Brooklyn, Morgan, Marshall, Allison and Jacob; sisters: Linda Straw of Cambridge, MN, Patty (Gene) Hiber of Republic, MI and Connie (Dick) Degneau of Milwaukee; his uncle, John Jessup and aunt, Rosie Glessing; nieces, nephews and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Larry.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM Friday, October 5, 2018 at Shell Lake Full Gospel Church with Pastor Virgil Amundson officiating. Burial with full Marine Corps honors will be at the Northern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 PM Thursday at the Skinner Funeral Home in Cumberland and for 1 hour prior to the service at the church.
Skinner Funeral Home of Cumberland is serving the family.
