was born in 1847. He is the son of David Straw and Caroline Ayer He was the 7th of eleven children. Like all the children of David Straw, Daniel had the opportunity to have an excellent education. He attended Dartmouth College's school of Medicine and graduated in 1869. Like so many of his time, the lure of the frontier beckoned. He went to Wells, Minnesota which was a thriving railroad hub in the 1870's and became the town's first physician and Health Officer.

"Dr. Straw, was an admired and much respected man in the community. He died in a carriage accident when Constance was not quite three years old. Clippings from newspapers at the time, tell of a huge outpouring of sympathy in the town and neighboring area, attesting to the affection and high esteem, in which his fellow citizens had held him." [per E. Benitez]

"His obituary states that he took his degree in 1869 and spent a year in Guilford before moving to Wells in Dec. 1870. He was married the following year in Sommerville Mass. ( S. Thoms)"
