Hello Celeste, you have a John McCombs born in 1803. In the 1850 Garland, Penobscot County, ME census there is a John McCoombs 44 [c1806], Maria McCoombs 27, Harrison Knight 24, Ann McCoombs 5, family 126. Alexander Macomb 40, family 121, and James McCoombs 35, family 130, are also listed in this same census. This could be four of the children you have listed as siblings. Who is Maria 27? Ann 50, could be the sister. This census listing does not have relationships.

John McComb is buried in Greeley Cemetery in Garland Maine. I believe he is the first husband of Maria Carpenter as shown in census of 1850-60 Garland, Maine. John's burial records show he died 1867 at 64 years of age which would make his DOB about 1803 which lines up with the census reports above.

"If you haven't found this resource it might help you with the Carpenter Genealogy. Check out Maine Families in 1790 Vol. 9 published by the Maine Genealogical Society starting on page 62 has a writeup on Nathaniel Carpenter b. Somersworth NH 1770 and on page 64 has Mariah, b. 30 Mar 1802 and goes on about her with John McCoombs and later Gideon Straw.
John and Maria did not have any children that I have ever identified. His brothers were Alexander, James and Robert and they had a sister Ann. I descend from Alexander. Their Mother was Martha. The father of the boys was also named John but did not emigrate with them as far as we know from family lore. You are correct that the John buried in Garland is the son of Martha and first husband of Maria Carpenter. His Will listed his heirs as his wife Maria A. and his 3 brothers. After he died, Maria sold the property they had in Garland and I would assume she then went back to the Newfield area and married Mr. Straw.
I have been unable to date to find any information relative to immigration information for any of them. "
