Samuel, NH Line, soldier married Molly Flanders 12 Jan 1786, both were from Hopkinton. Soldier died 6 Aug 1844 at Hopkinton, aged 83, leaving no widow but children; Jacob, Samuel, Timothy, Sally Colley, Polly Silver, Nancy Felch, Lydia Jones. Jacob was the adm'r of the soldier's estate. 1852 Jacob was 57 and said all were living. Soldier's bothers, William and Levi made aff'dts in 1852, Levi was aged 83. One Judith Eaton aged 63, a resident of Hopkinton in 1853 stated that the Rev. War soldier, Samuel Straw's wife was Mary("Molly") Flanders

Jacob stated that he recollects distinctly of hearing his father..the said Samuel Straw day before his death when asked why he did not apply for a pension that "he was well used while he was in his country's service and he should not trouble the goverment while he had friends to take care of him"

Jacob testified that he "heard his father, Samuel Straw speak of being at West Point in 1780 at the time General Arnold deserted and saw him when he made his escape to the British Ship lying in the River Hudson...that he had heard his father speak of Stephen Putney and Natnaiel Trumbull as comrades with him in the same company. [these two men gave testimony]
23 Sep 1852 Levi Straw age 83 years..brother of Samuel, also brother of William Straw says brother Samuel served in war when he [Levi] was about 12 years old when Samuel Straw enlisted for the last time [1780] for 3 months he thinks and was absent from home more than that time...heard him tell of General Arnold....
Levi Hutchins testified, he was son of Capt Gordon Hutchins and served with Samuel Straw in his father Gordon Hutchins' company and gave depostion saying Samuel served 1775-1776...and that they marched togeter from Hopkinton to Medford, MA and that he[Samuel Straw] "used to carry messages for my father and act as a waiter [19 Aug 1775 "waiter"] for him some of the time"..attached to Col John Stark's Regt.....[Levi was a fifer in his father's company]
25 Sept 1852 at age 71 yrs his brother William Straw testified...".Samuel Straw was a prominent member of the Universalist Church.....I [Wm] was not born till my brother came out of the service and I derive my information from conversations of my said brother, Samuel Straw..."

Addenda: re: Gordon Hitchins [from Sons of the American Revoultion]
Col Gordon Hutchins was b, in Harvard, MA and moved to Concord, NH in 1773. ....after hearing the news of the tragical affair...19th of April 1775..of which the quiet villages of Lexington and Concord were the appointed theater...(he) repaired to Exeter, NH to have an interview with the Committee of Safety [resulting in a Captain's commission]..returned to Concord, NH..raised and organized a compnay of men who enlisted for 6 mos..he and his men marched to Medford, Ma arriving in early May...reamined until the evening preceeding the Battle of Bunker Hill..his company and two others from Concord under the command of Col Stark's regiment..were among the number of Amerians who fought against the British in that memorable engagement [this would have included Samuel Straw]..after this battle in which he was wounded..he marched to Winter Hill where he was stationed until the end of the year......in 1776 he was raised to rank of Lt Colonel in Col Nahum Baldwin's Regt.
