Joseph Moody married Mary LEAVITT (spelled Leavit in the old records). They were married Nov. 24, 1742 in NH prob. the Kingston area. Joseph was a soldier in the French and Indian Wars during the 1760 involvement under General Jeffery Amherst's company.
They fought in and around Ticonderoga, New York and the lake area's of upstate NY. Joseph Moody contracted smallpox and came home sick and infected nearly his entire family with it. There are records on file where the town tried to recover costs from his and his families medical and burial expenses, not to mention the other folks of the town who caught the smallpox disease from him.
This Joseph Moody and Mary Leavitt are the Parents of "Capt." Clement Moody who was born 1747 married c1767 to Mary (last name unknown) prob. in Waterborough, York Co., Maine where they lived prior to moving to Stowe, VT, and then Capt. Clement died in Stowe on Nov. 4, 1831 and is buried in the Old Yard Cemetery in Stowe with his wife named "Mary" and referred to in the old records as "Clem's wife".
