Lydia, was married twice. She married a Bolton who we do not know, as yet, and had Albertia about 1862, Percival June 8 1865, Lizzie abt 1867, Lillie abt 1870 , Courtland abt 1863 and Willie (William) abt 1875. She married Oscar Warren Straw abt 1876.

further notes from Larry Brown: (July 2004)
Jane, Since the time you sent the E-mail to me on July 9, I finally started working the Bolton genealogy in all seriousness. Below are several E-mails with some results. The key was the Birthday Book, my cousin, Bert Schoonover, sent to me which was kept by his Grandmother, Jennie M. Wood who married Percival G. Bolton. I am still looking for the husband of Lydia Ortentia Thomas. I am at a loss at the moment. Anyway, I just wanted you to know how much I appreciate the fact that you took time to put the information together. Without your wonderful help we would not have accomplished very much. From: Larry BrownDate: Wed, 28 Jul 2004 14:51:53 -0700 To: Bert Schoonover Subject: FW: Whitcher & Whittier tree Bert, Below are some E-mails with information that I have been working on to find out the Mother of Percival G. Bolton. I have been using your Grandmother's Birthday Book and it has helped a lot. Percival's Mother, Lydia, was married twice. Oscar Warren and Lydia Ortentia (whose maiden name is believed to be Thomas) had Queenie Alma Straw Nov 4 1880. All the above were in the 1881 Canadian Census and were living in Hereford East, Compton, Quebec, Canada. Also born to Oscar and Lydia were Clarence W. Straw born Jan 11 1882 and Fenton Warren Straw Feb 15 1886. I found some of the Straw's in the 1900 Census in Landaff, Grafton County, NH and they were all born in Canada. By the way, Lydia Thomas-Bolton-Straw was born abt 1844. It appears that Albertia is Alberta M. Straw in the birthday book, born Nov 1 1861. She may have assumed the name Straw instead of using Bolton or maybe she was adopted. Queene Alma Straw married John Winthrop Whitcher 22 June 1896. He was born Sep 9 1876. Clarence W. Straw died June 9 1964 per the Social Security Death Index, which is on line. I note that there is an Amelia A. Thomas born Aug 5, 1860 in the birthday book. She might be a niece of Lydia Thomas-Bolton-Straw. Uncle William Bolton, in the Birthday Book, born July 1 1835 might be the brother of Lydia's first husband. I am at a loss at the moment as to who the 1st husband (Bolton) would be. There is also a C. J. Thomas born June 3 1855 (Birthday Book) who could be a brother of Lydia. There is also an O.M. Thomas born Aug 17 1857 who could also be a brother of Lydia (Birthday Book). Also, Fenton Warren Straw married Clara C. Dexter and they had Gwendolyn Geneve Straw born 9 Dec 1914 and died 31 Dec 1971. Gwendolyn is also in the birthday book. Yesterday, I sent you a letter with an Application for a New Hampshire birth certificate for your Uncle, Jerry C. Bolton, It will cost you a $12 check to find you the maiden name of Jerry's Mother who was first married to Percival G. Bolton. Larry

Bolton could have been her first husband, with Percival (listed as Straw as you point out on the Canadian census for 1881) being a child of her first marriage. (And then Straw was her second husband's surname.) This seems quite possible: Ortentia doesn't seem like a common name, yet Percival named his daughter Jessie Ortensia - perhaps after his mother. The only other Straw I have in my tree, at present, is Sarah Straw, born 1785-1786, died August 27, 1859, in Henniker, New Hampshire. Her husband was Richard Whittier. (And no Boltons that I have found so far.) Thank you also for sending me the correct birth date for Queenie A. Whitcher.
