Willa L. Hartley, 81, of Nebraska City, died Dec. 28, 2010 at BryanLGH East in Lincoln. Willa Lou (Gump) Hartley was born on Sept. 9, 1929 in Nebraska City to Ray R. and Stella H. (Witty) Gump. She graduated from Nebraska City High School in 1948.
She married Charles William Hartley at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Nebraska City on July 9, 1951.
Willa worked at the former LT&T Phone Company in Nebraska City as an operator for over 25 years.
She was a member of the Legion, V.F.W. and Eagles Auxiliaries, the Friends of the Library and the Nebraska City Alumni Association as well as the First Christian Church in Nebraska City.
Her family always came first. She was an avid gardener and cook and enjoyed sharing her baked goods. She enjoyed nature and feeding the squirrels and birds. She was a fan of Cornhusker football, volleyball and baseball. She was a gifted artist.
She is survived by children Laurie Holley and husband Darrell of Henderson, Leonard Hartley of Union, Kelly Beccard and husband Mark of Bellevue, Craig Hartley and wife Debbi of Nebraska City and Todd Hartley of Nebraska City; nine grandchildren: D.W. and Ann Holley of Greeley, Lanny and Amanda Zimmerman Holley of Madison, Wisc., Jena and Jason Stoll of Nebraska City, Lyndsey Hartley of Nebraska City, Shannan and Tim McGarry of Bellevue, Nicholas Beccard and fiancé Maggie of Sioux City, Iowa, Jordan and Trisha Beccard of Council Bluffs, Drew Hartley of Lincoln and Paige Hartley of Nebraska City; seven great-grandchildren: Kennady and Canon Holley, Connor and Ashlyn McGarry, Beau Van Eldik, Brayden Hartley and Makenzie Stoll; siblings Jack Gump and wife Ruth of San Diego, Calif., Dorothy Moralle of Bellevue and Doyle Gump and companion Lela Bade of Lincoln; sisters and brothers-in-law: Lois Harris and husband Leonard of Nebraska City, Bob Hartley and wife Patty of Evergreen, Colo., Sharlette Wadsworth and husband Jim of Nehawka and Mary Ann Hartley of Omaha; numerous nieces, nephews, other family and many friends.
She was preceded by her husband Charles on Oct. 24, 1998; brothers Leonard and Leslie Gump; great-grandson Jonathon Francis Hartley-Ullsperger; and sisters and brothers in law Betty Hartley, Frank "Buster" Hartley, Jr., Joseph Moralle and Marion Gump.
Services and burial were Jan. 3 at the Wyuka Cemetery in Nebraska City with Rev. Jerry Albright of the First Christian Church officiating.
Memorials may be given to the River Country Nature Center, Nebraska City Museum of Firefighting or the Stella Gump Scholarship Fund given by the Nebraska City Alumni Association.
