Mary Ellen Eichelberger of Nebraska City, 82, died May 27 at the Ambassador in Nebraska City, surrounded by her family.
Mary Ellen (Drennan) Eichelberger was born Feb. 8, 1930 in Nebraska City to Lester and Faye (Whited) Drennan.
She graduated from Nebraska City High School in 1947.
On April 14, 1950, Mary Ellen married Gerald Straw. They later divorced. On June 3, 1970, she married Carroll "Ike" Eichelberger.
Mary Ellen was a 62-year member of the First United Methodist Church in Nebraska City. She enjoyed helping at the church whenever she was asked.
She was also a member of the Eagles Auxiliary. She was a long time hairdresser at Bess Beauty Salon in Nebraska City.
Mary Ellen enjoyed visiting with family and friends and attending dances where Ike played the saxophone for the band The Ramblers.
She enjoyed attending her grandchildren and great-grandchildren's activities and loved animals, especially dogs and cats.
She is survived by daughter Judy and husband Bob Lowrey of Auburn; granddaughters Bobette and husband John Guenther of Auburn and Laura Lea and husband Jeff Fossenbarger of Johnson; great grandsons Cole and Caleb Fossenbarger of Johnson and Ryan Guenther of Auburn; sisters-in-law Jeanene Drennan of Omaha, Marge Drennan of Springfield, Mo., and Virginia Drennan of Lincolnton, Ga.; brother-in-law Jim Eichelberger of Atchison, Kan.; step children Terri and husband Phil Patton of Port Orchard, Wash., and Bruce Eichelberger of Navar, Kan.; step-granddaughter Carie and husband Wade Pierpoint of Claremore, Okla.; two step great-grandchildren Brooklyn and Nicholas Pierpoint; nieces, nephews and many friends.
Mary Ellen was preceded by her husband; sister Hazel Dixon; brothers Kenneth, Muriel Lee, Jim, Joe and Don Drennan; brother-in-law Bob Dixon; sister-in-law Diane Eichelberger; and niece Barbara Schomaker.
Funeral services was Friday, June 1, at Gude Mortuary in Nebraska City with Rev. Larry Tolen officiating; burial was at Mt. Pleasant Cemetary in Nehawka.
Memorials may be given to The Ambassador - Nebraska City, Hearts United for Animals (Auburn) or American Cancer Society.
Pallbearers were Bruce Eichelberger, Jeff Fossenbarger, John Guenther, Mike Rakes, Brian Schrader and Steve Schrader.
Honorary pallbearers were Cole and Caleb Fossenbarger and Ryan Guenther.
