DOVER - Joy Eldredge Straw died Monday, March 2, 2015, lovingly surrounded by her children at Maine Medical Center in Portland, Maine. She was 86.
Originally from Massachusetts, Joy married and raised her six children in New Hampshire. Joy was blessed with many talents. She was an artist who worked with pastels and oils. She adorned her home with pictures of her children and breathtaking winter landscapes. She had a beautiful voice and was trained at the New England Congregational Church in New Castle when her children were young. Joy was a gifted gardner. She created beautiful rock gardens. She loved all animals, particularly cats and birds. She was a very spiritual person. Nature was God's garden to her.
Joy was creative, imaginative, smart, liked to read and write poetry and was an avid reader and loyal Boston Celtics fan.
Joy is survivied by her six children, Michael Straw and his wife Tina; Miriam Lovin and her husband Glenn; Eldred Straw and his wife Jamie; Joanne Smith; Larry Straw and his wife Sandy; and Marilyn Straw Flores and her husband David Flores. Grandchildren include: Christopher Straw, Jennifer Straw Macko, Justin Rocky Davis Flores, July Flores, Katie Straw, Ryan Straw, Conrad Roberts, Evan Roberts, TW Smith, Katelyn Smith Malone, Jillian Straw Woods, Shawn Straw, Chelsea Straw, Tony Straw, Geanie Flores, Candida Flores Straus, David Flores Jr and 10 great grandchilden.

Joy married Eldred Vincent Straw, son of Dr Merle David Straw and Lottie Ann Publicover, in Oct 1947. (Eldred Vincent Straw was born on 5 Jul 1926 in Burlington, Penobscot County, Maine, died on 13 Jan 1999 in Deland, Volusia County, Florida and was buried in Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne, Barnstable Co, MA.)
