Authoress of extensive genealogy of the Straw Family beginning with William Straw who emigrated from England in the 1600s and settled in Salisbury, MA. Wm married first Mehitable Hoyt and had a daughter Dorothy and two sons, William Jr and John. Mehitable died and he married for a second time and had two more sons named Samuel and Lawrence/Laurence. Ellen is descended down through the Samuel line. William 1 was her great-great-great-great grandfather.

He b. 19 Feb 1847 Portsmouth NH and d. 4 Jan 1909, age 61 in Lowell MA, a suicide (pistol shot wound of brain). He was the son of William N. & Louisa M. (Butler) Thompson, and later lived with his parents in Biddeford ME (1860). He was buried 6 Jan 1909 in Salem MA. They had resided at 4 Park Street in Lowell MA. They had at least one ch, a son Albert W. Thompson b 16 Feb 1874 in E. Somerville MA, who m. 6 Oct 1898 in Lowell MA to Hildreth Nesmith, age 22 dau of Thomas & Florence (Hildreth) Nesmith. She was. b. 23 Sep 1876 in Lowell MA and d. after Sept 1918.

The marriage of Henry M. Thompson, agent for the Manchester Print works, and Miss Nellie Straw youngest daughter of Gov straw of New Hampshire took place at Manchester on Thursday. the rece;ption was a very brilliant affair and was attended by many distinguished people from various parts of the state.

THOMPSON - Died Dec 31st in this city, Mrs Ellen Straw Thompson aged 74 at her home [Nesmith St]..survived by two sons, Albert W. Thompson of this city and Herman E. Thompson of Manchester, NH and one brother, Herman F. Straw of Manchester, NH also six grandsons."

Ellen married Henry Martin Thompson, son of William H. Thompson and Louisa Butler, on 12 Sep 1872 in Manchester, Hillsborough County, New Hampshire. (Henry Martin Thompson was born on 19 Feb 1847 in Portsmouth, Rockingham County, New Hampshire, died on 4 Jan 1909 in Lowell, Middlesex County, Massachusetts and was buried on 6 Jan 1909 in Salem, Essex County, Massachusetts.). The cause of his death was suicide by gunshot.
