Jabez Alexander, son of Thomas Alexander and Phoebe Parker Alexander was born
22 August 1755 at Marlboro, Massachusetts, but was living in Henniker, New
Hampshire, on 23 April 1775, when he threw his support to the American colonies
and their bid for freedom by enlisting in the New Hampshire militia. He served
a month then and five months the next year, beginning in June of 1776, when he
saw action at Ticonderoga.
He married Lois Pool, daughter of Benjamin Pool and Lois Rand Pool of Stow,
Massachusetts, on 17 February 1777 at neighboring Sudbury, Massachusetts, then
left his bride for a third campaiggn in August 1777 when he participated in the
Battle of Bennington.
His family grew up with the young nation. Alvah Alexander, the father of
Louisa Pool Alexander, was the tenth of their eleven children, born 12 March
1799 at Acworth, New Hampshire. Twenty-two years later, Mother Lois died in
Acworth, 21 June 1821. Jabez married a woman named Besty, in Marlow, New
Hampshire, on 13 December 1821. To this union several additional children were
born, the youngest when Jabez was almost seventy-eight.
