Research of Belinda Pierce on Rootsweb: (cherokeebabe@comcast.net)
Allen states the following;
" Al came to this country with his folks and two brothers, George and Paul also a sister Vina. He homsteaded with George, and brother-in-law Jim Saffell, in the same section. They came to Rosebud County in 1897 from Burr Oak, Kansas. The Three boys celebrated together on the day fifty years later.
He was married to Ada Straw, Charlie Straw's daughter who lived on the lower Rosebud creek in November 1911. They ranched and Al had a saw mill and with George and Jim sawed quite a bit of lumber for the people who were building cabins and barns. In 1918 he entered into a partnership with Lewis Boucher. They owned the largest steam engine that J.I. Case ever made. None of the soil ever blew away after they ran over it with that engine. He also threshed grain for the neighbors.
Al left Sweeny Creek to go firing for the Milwaukee Railroad in 1919 which he did until 1922 when sickness caused him to move to Portland, Oregon."

(Susan who wrote a book called history of Rosebud County .... in a letter to Belinda Pierce on Rootsweb)
"The reason this is so interesting to me is that my father and I went to
Forsyth, Rosebud County, Montana a couple years ago. We met a Mr. Straw who
remembered my Davis family. His family has been in that area since the
early 1900's. Mr. Straw was elderly, but had a good memory for some things.
I am sure that the Ada Straw who married Allen Jackson was of the same Straw
family. At least one family member, the Mr. Straw we met is STILL in
Forsyth."

We went to the cemetery today, and Ada Straw Jackson and her husband and daughter are all buried at Sunset Hills Cemetery in Washington County, Oregon. There is a plot for son/brother Allen, which says he must still be alive someplace. The man in the cemetery/funeral home office said that usually when someone goes into a nursing home, that the information for burial is usually given at that time. Thus he thinks he is still alive.
