"John Straw an aged resident of Cedar Falls, passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs Fred Anderson........this morning. He was past 77 yrs of age. He was born in Coburg, Canada but spent most of his early life in Illinois. About 30 yrs ago he moved to Marcus, IA...came to Cedar Falls about 3 yrs ago to make his home with his daughter.
another daughter lives in FL who will not be able to attend the funeral. His wife died some 15 yrs ago at Marcus. Remains to be taken to Marcus for burial...funeral services in charge of AOUW of which deceased was a member."

John married Helen Maria Morgan, daughter of Francis Perkins Morgan and Mary Jane Nash, on 24 Dec 1873 in Rockford, Illinois.
