Clinton Eye, Clinton MO, Aug 28 1964 - Graveside services for Mrs. Jeff Burt were held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 18 at the First Baptist Church, Clinton, conducted by Rev. S. Richard Wallis. Casket bearers were grandsons, Gary Gregory, Dale Danforth, Dwight Burt, Bob Manuel, Donald Burt, Stan Straw, Arthur Danforth and Ronald Burt. Burial was in Englewood Cemetery, Howard L. Vansant, funeral director, in charge. Mary Belle Smith, daughter of Joseph and Tabitha Smith, was born Nov. 23, 1883, at Cairo, Kansas. She died Saturday, Aug. 15, 1964, at Clinton General Hospital. The family moved to Stafford County, Kansas where she attended school and later taught in the school system. She was converted when she was 12 years of age. On May 3, 1903, she was married to Jeff M. Burt and to this union 13 children, 12 of whom survive. One daughter, Marjorie, died at the age of one year. The year 1915, Mr. and Mrs. Burt moved with their family from Stafford County, Kansas to a homestead near Las Animas, Colorado, where they resided until moving to Mt. Zion, Mo., in 1923. She became a member of the Mt. Zion Baptist Church where she held her membership until the time of death. Besides fulfilling the duties of a devoted wife and mother, Mrs. Burt was an active worker in her community and church, ever demonstrating her concerns for her family and friends. She watched over her family with devout Christian Faith and love. Since 1953 Mr. and Mrs. Burt have made their home at 311 North Forth Street, Clinton; this home was always a haven for their children and grandchildren and their many friends. She is survived by the husband, Jeff of the home; seven daughters, Mrs. Harry (Rowena) Knisley, Los Aminas, Colorado, Mrs. Duard (Maybelle) Hubbard, Okanegan, Wa., Mrs. Earl (Wilma) Puffenbarger, Kansas City, Mrs. H. A. (Bernice) Straw, Clinton, Mrs. Ralph (Vivian) Manuel, Tightwad, Mo., Mrs. William (Persis) Rokel, Albuquerque, N.M., Mrs. Glenn (Betty) Gregory, Mt. Zion. Five sons, Orbin, Parkville, Radford, Sedalia, Melvin, Raytown, Stafford, Garden City, and Gordon, Kansas City; one sister, Mrs. Annie Davison, Larkin, Kansas; two brothers, Mart Smith, Macksville, Kansas, and Clarence Smith, Hutchinson, Kansas; 32 grandchildren and 27 great- grandchildren.
