www.findagrave.com Marvin, who often went by Elmer during his young adult years, was born in 1869 to George Strawn and Mary Hodges. He spent most of his youth in Mattawan and Kalamazoo. In 1894, he and his sweetheart, Luella Griffith, eloped to St Joseph County, Indiana. Shortly thereafter, they moved to rural Ogemaw County, where they welcomed four children over the next 5 years. Sadly, during the pregnancy for youngest son George, Luella contracted pulmonary tuberculosis. With the help of his parents, he raised his young family as a single parent. As his children grew up and moved away, Marvin found his way to Saginaw, near son George, where he lived out the rest of his life in a boarding house. He died in October, 1943. He was laid to rest with Luella in Rose City cemetery
Marvin married Lucia Luella Griffith, daughter of Collins Dewane Griffith and Harriet Eleanor Pettys, on 19 Oct 1894 in St. Joseph County, Indiana. (Lucia Luella Griffith was born in 1865 in Mattawan, Van Buren County, Michigan, died on 7 Oct 1914 in Michigan State Hospital in Traverse City, Michigan and was buried in Rose City Cemetery in Ogemaw County, Michigan; Lot 122B.). The cause of her death was TB (pulmonary).
