Clifford Dale "Skip" Straw passed away Nov. 21, 2011.
One of 11, born in Los Angeles Dec. 23, 1932, to Percy and Pauline Straw and raised in the San Fernando Valley.
He is survived by a daughter, son, four stepchildren, two grandchildren, one great-grandchild, one brother, three sisters, and his longtime music partner, Marlene Nord.
He served in the U.S. Air Force, was a barber and in swimming pool construction. He began his music career in his early thirties playing bass guitar with Jimmy Lawton and "The Lawmen." Following retirement Skip revived his musical interest becoming renowned in Ventura County and surrounding areas. His bass guitar and vocal styling were part of the "45 RPM" band for 10 years. He belonged to the "Old Time Fiddlers" Association for the past eight years and partnered with Marlene Nord in "A Little Bit O' Country" playing music around the country.
A celebration of life memorial will be held Jan. 8, in conjunction with the Old Time Fiddlers from 1-4 p.m. at the Oak View Community Center, 18 Valley Rd., Oak View.
