Cheney, 69, of Country Meadows Estates, Plant City, Fla., formerly of Lebanon, husband of Barbara (Pennell) Cheney, died Wednesday (July 13) in Brandon, Fla. He was born March 28, 1925, in Dexter, Maine, son of the late Roy and Florence (Straw) Cheney, and attended schools there. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in the 133rd Infantry. He was awarded the Silver Star for gallantry in action while serving in Italy. He also received the Purple Heart. He was a prisoner of war in January 1944, and was discharged from the military August 1945. Prior to moving to Florida, he was employed by Depot Pump, Franklin, for 25 years. In addition to his wife and best friend of 48 years, he is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Penny and Ken Roskin of Simsbury; a son and daughter-in-law, Rodney and Doreen Cheney of Lebanon; a brother and sister-in-law, Therl and Charlotte Cheney of Zephyrhills, Fla.; two granddaughters, Stephanie, and Stacey of Lebanon; several nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be Monday, 1 p.m., in the New Lebanon Cemetery, Waterman Road, Lebanon, with the Rev. Sharon Ledbetter officiating. There are no calling hours.
