Raymond Glen Beason, Sr., 87, died on March 8, 2010 at Duff's Friendship Villa in Nebraska City. He was born on July 1, 1922 near Julian, the son of Fred and Anna (Straw) Beason.
He graduated from Hamburg, Iowa, High School in 1940. He married Ruth Holland and later Beulah Hasty, who survives him.
Raymond spent his life farming and it was a profession that he dearly loved. In 1967, he was awarded the regional champion of the national soybean contest and with this award came a new McCormick Farmall 656 Tractor. His bean yield that year was second highest in the nation.
He was a life member of the Eagles and a member of the Elks, the American Legion, U.C.T. and Farm Bureau.
He is survived by his two sons, Raymond Beason, Jr. of Lincoln, and Robert Beason and life partner Janelle of Nebraska City; seven grandchildren: Darren Beason, Denny Beason, Danielle Beason, John Eads, Wayne Schroeder, Rick Beason and Danny Erwin; nine great-grandchildren; two stepsons, Larry Hasty of California and Jerry Hasty and wife Trudy of Missouri; and other family and friends.
He was preceded by brothers Roy and Fred.
Funeral services are Thursday morning at 10:30 a.m. at the Gude Mortuary in Nebraska City with Rev. Jeff Kelley officiating. Burial is in the Wyuka Cemetery. Pallbearers are Raymond's seven grandchildren.
Memorials may be given to the Nebraska City Volunteer Fire Department.
The family will greet friends from 6- 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday evening at the mortuary.
