Eleanor Cecelia (Kuennen) Huber, dies at 93
Dateline: Fort Atkinson
Eleanor Huber, 93, of Fort Atkinson, died Friday, April 18, at Clarissa Cook Hospice Home in Bettendorf following a long illness.
Mass of Christian burial will be 10:30 a.m.Tuesday, April 22 at St. John's Catholic Church, Fort Atkinson with Rev. David Beckman officiating. Dan Neuzil will serve Mass. David Huber, Irene Leuenberger and Karen Straw will place the pall on the casket. Music will be provided by organist Lorraine Kuennen, accompanying Dan Silhacek and the St. John's Choir singing "Going Home". Hymn selections include "Be Not Afraid", "Here I Am Lord", "On Eagles Wings" and "How Great Thou Art". Dick Nienhaus will be lector and presenting the offertory gifts will be David Huber, Irene Leuenberger and Karen Straw. Internment will be in St. John's Catholic Cemetery with Paul Martin, Victor Croatt, John Foremen Jr., Sam Schmitt, Ron Kuennen and Ronald Schmitz serving as casketbearers.
Eleanor Cecelia (Kuennen) Huber was born February 7, 1915, in St. Lucas, the daughter of John W. and Katherine (Croatt) Kuennen. She was united in marriage to Philip J. Huber on May 1, 1934. Philip and Eleanor farmed just east of Fort Atkinson, for fifty years. In addition to farming, she enjoyed raising vegetables in her garden, flower gardening, making quilts, playing cards and bingo. Eleanor was a long-standing member of St. John's Catholic Church, Fort Atkinson, and the National Catholic Order of Foresters. In recent years she lived with her son and daughter-in-law, Leo and Jane Huber in Davenport.
Eleanor's survivors include her six children: Gerald Huber of Davenport, Leo (Jane) Huber of Davenport, Merle (Carole) Huber of Nevada, Mo, Irene (Jim) Leuenberger of Shawano, Wis., David (Cynthia) Huber of St. Paul, Minn., and Karen Straw of Lawler; son-in-law, Ronald Buchheit, Festina; sister, Minnie Kuehner, New Hampton; ten grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.
Eleanor was preceded in death by her parents: John and Katherine Kuennen. Her husband: Philip Huber. Daughter: Bernice Buchheit. Son-in-law: Ed Straw. Grandson: Dale Huber. Three sisters: Clara Schmitt, Nettie Kittlesby and Linda Martin. Four brothers: Victor Kuennen, Ray Kuennen, Al Kuennen, and Jacob Kuennen in infancy.
