New Hampshire Union Leader (Manchester, NH)
November 23, 2011
PITTSBURG '97 Willie D. Judd, Sr., 75, passed away peacefully on Nov. 21, 2011, at the Coos County Nursing Hospital in West Stewartstown, after a long period of declining health.
Willie was born on Oct. 4, 1936, in Pittsburg to Burnham R. and Olive (Heath) Judd. He was raised in Pittsburg and graduated from Pittsburg High School in 1954.
He worked in the finishing room at Ethan Allen and as a log scaler for St. Regis Paper Co. In the early 1970s he went into real estate and owned and operated Moon Realty Associates for 40 years. He also worked for Perry Stream Land & Timber Co. Inc., for more than 20 years until his retirement in 2008.
Willie spent his whole life in Pittsburg and took great pride in that. He was a descendant of the original founders of the Indian Stream Republic. He was a past selectman and school board member, and he also served on the town planning board. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.
A generous man by nature, he enjoyed helping people. He donated land for auction to help raise money for the Pittsburg Fire Station and for the town's tennis court. There are countless stories of Willie giving a "helping hand" to those in need.
His greatest joy was spending time with his family. He enjoyed following all of his children and grandchildren in all their activities, but was especially proud of their sports careers. Willie himself was Class S State Foul Shooting Champion in 1954 with a record of 27 out of 30. He watched his sons play and win the 1975, 1985 and 1986 Class S basketball championships. In 2009, he watched as his grandsons helped bring the first Class S baseball championship to Pittsburg.
Willie was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great friend to many who will be thought of fondly and sadly missed.
He leaves behind his beloved wife of 56 years, Janice (Straw) Judd of Pittsburg; his five children, Willie Judd, Jr. and wife Nancy of Pittsburg, Richard Judd and companion Bev Lord of Pittsburg, Kevin Judd and companion Brenda Marquis of Pittsburg, Kim Chase and husband Warren of Pittsburg, and Vincent Judd and wife Christine of Bradford; two brothers, Burnham "Bing" Judd and Archie Judd, both of Pittsburg; his grandchildren, Kilee Willey, Jodi Young, Jensen Judd and Kirby Judd, Hunter Judd, Brooke Judd, Morgan Mahlatini, Lindsey Judd, Marcus Chase, Logan Chase and Travis Chase, Nick Windhurst and Tucker Windhurst; his great-grandchildren, Kaiden Willey, Jaylyn Young, Jill and Payton Mahlatini, and Lincoln Judd; and an aunt, Elizabeth Washburn.
He is preceded in death by his parents and a granddaughter, Kellye Rae Judd Chase.
SERVICES: Calling hours will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 26, and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 27 at the Jenkins & Newman Funeral Home, Colebrook. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 28, at the Farnham Memorial United Methodist Church in Pittsburg, with the Reverends Rose Howe and Rick Boyden officiating. Interment will follow at the Indian Stream Cemetery in Pittsburg.
