Dean E. Taylor, 80, of Dunbar, died Jan. 10, 2007 at his home, surrounded by his family. He was born July 11, 1926 in Lincoln to Robert E. and Camylle A. (Prewitt) Taylor. He married Marion Straw Aug. 3, 1979 in Fremont.
He graduated from Lincoln High then attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and Watchmaker's School in Colorado. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
He was a watchmaker and owned and operated Taylor Jewelry in Auburn for many years. He took great pride in his craft and enjoyed the friends he made through his business. He was known to many as the "Happy Little Jeweler." He was dedicated to his family. He was a member of Dunbar Presbyterian Church.
He is survived by his wife, Marion, of Dunbar; children William Dean Taylor and wife Nancy of Bennett, James Dean Taylor of Wichita, Kan., Richard Dean Taylor and wife Anita of Griffin, Ga., Ann Louise Jackson and husband Mark of Chugwater, Wyo., and Pamela Mae Kilpatrick and husband Scott of Elkhorn; 14 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; brothers Robert E. Taylor and wife Betty A. of Newnan, Ga., and Richard R. Taylor and wife Betty L. of Knoxville, Tenn.; sister Phyllis A. Cummins of Lincoln; sister-in-law Judy Anderson of Dunbar; and brothers-in-law Vernon "Butch" Straw and wife Alma Lee of Dunbar and Richard Straw and wife Sandy of Nebraska City; nieces, nephews, and other family and friends.
Funeral services are Monday, Jan. 15, 2 p.m. at Gude Mortuary Chapel in Nebraska City with Pastor Glenn Redmond officiating. The body will be cremated following services. The family will greet friends from 4- 5 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 14, at the mortuary. The casket will remain closed at the family's request.
Memorials are suggested to Dunbar Presbyterian Church or Tabitha Healthcare Services - East Region.
Gude Mortuary, Nebraska City, is in charge of arrangements.
