Cause of his death was acute gastritis.
General Notes:
Spent his boyhood in Stafford; attended Austin Academy and Commercial College at Davenport, IOWA. First job was in the clothing business in Manchester, NH; later taken into firm. 1870 sold out to his partners and engaged in wholesale men's goods in Boston with firm of Bowen, Howard and Co. with branch in Chicago. It burned in the great fire of 1872 (Boston?) and lost all stock, book accounts and private papers. He began anew and was manager of Boston branch of R. K. Davies and Co. and then went to NYC to head a company there.Resigned there 1889 to organize Waulkenhose MFG CO where his invention of Waukenhose was mfgd. Recd medal at Chicago's World fair for his Waukenhose and honorable mention by Congress as an inventor whose genius has been advantage to the world. Also served as member of the common council of City of Boston 1879-1880. Also 1863 commissioned a LT in NH Head Guards (named for adj-gen Natt head) reporting to Clinton, IA in charge of transportation on the Mississippi for 9 mos. He then went to Northern Nebraska and the Dakotas in the campaign against the Sioux Indians. He and his wife lived at 40 Arlington St. in Lowell, MA.
