Research of James W. Straw

STRAW, MEREDITH I. WALKER Meredith I. Straw passed away on March 9, 2003. She was preceded in death by her mother, Sally Schnieder, her father, Thomas A. Walker Jr., her older brother Richard Goodwin, her twin sister Marion I. Lesh, and nephew Thomas A. Walker IV. She is survived by her husband of 20 years, Frank Straw; son, Stephan; nieces Sally Lesh and Elizabethe Walker; nephews, David Lesh and William Walker; brothers, Thomas A. Walker III, and Nathaniel Goodwin; sisters, Susan Hays and Mary Jane Yount; brothers-in-law, Dr. Paul R. Hays, and Wes Yount; sisters-in-law, Mikki Walker and Rosa Goodwin. During her brief 16 years within the community of Cardiff by the Sea, she was known as the ultimate volunteer, giving her time to the Cardiff School District as Art Docent for 4 years, Room Mother for 6 years, and school volunteer at Ada Harris School for 2 years. She was Past President and member of the Board of Directors of the Cardiff by the Sea Friends of the Library, Arts and Crafts Director for the Cardiff by the Sea Library for many years. She received ``Outstanding Volunteer of the Year ' ' in 1995 from the County of San Diego for her work with the Cardiff by the Sea Library. She was a Docent at the San Dieguito Heritage Museum and a volunteer at the Encinitas Historical Society School House Project. She was Past President of the San Dieguito Academy Music Boosters. She was a Director on the San Dieguito Academy Foundation and received their Crystal Star for 1999-2000. She was an office volunteer at the Cardiff by the Sea Chamber of Commerce Visitors Center. Meredith was active in the City of Encinitas Sister City Project and hosted Japanese students for many years. She has made many friends in the community and will be missed by all who knew her and loved her. A memorial service is planned for her on Sunday, March 23, 2:00-4:00 p.m. to be held in Banquet Hall ' A ' at the Encinitas Community and Senior Center, 1140 Oakcrest Park Dr., Encinitas.
