Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier (IA)

Kay Janene Meighan passed into her next life on Thursday, Feb. 14, 2013. Kay was born on Sept. 1, 1936, to Robert and Ella (Straw) McCahen, in New Hampton, Iowa. Kay grew up in the New Hampton area, where she met her husband, Bill Meighan. They married May 7, 1955, in Iowa City. They moved to Waterloo, and built their home and family in the Waterloo community, where they raised four children. Kay worked for and retired from the Career Planning and Placement Center at the University of Northern Iowa. After retirement Kay loved to travel, whether it was cruises around the Caribbean, visiting the Amana Colonies or experiencing the state of Iowa through local festivals. More than anything, Kay adored her grandchildren and spent many hours attending their activities. Her grandchildren will always remember "Granny's" sense of humor, and her care for them.
Surviving Kay, are three of her children, Shawn (Shelly) Meighan of Ankeny, and their children, Kelsey, Kerry, and Will; Kris (Tim) Miller of West Des Moines, and their children Erica, Ty, Nick and Lindsay (Miller) Schmauss; Toni (John) Dinnebier of Waukee and their children Katie and Tanner; and her sister, Cindy (John) Kirst of Osage. Kay is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Kay is preceded in death by her parents Ella (Straw) and Robert McCahen, husband Bill Meighan, daughter Michelle, and brothers Robert, Jackie and Gary McCahen. There is no doubt that she was greeted warmly by all when she passed into Eternity.
Funeral services will be held Monday, Feb. 18, at 10:30 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, with burial in Mount Olivet Cemetery, both in Waterloo, Iowa. The family will receive family and friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions be made to Columbus High School.
