OIL STATION ROBBERS GET PRISON FOR SMALL LOOT
"Sentences of 5 years each in the Penitentiary were pronounced Thursday afternoon by District Judge Leslie upon Stanley A_____21 and Reuben Clarence Straw age 27 who confessed holding up _____an oil station attendant...December 11...they implicated a third man...and each got $5.00 of the $15.00 loot so their sentences were at the rate of a year for a dollar.....Straw lived at a hotel and says he is married but that a divorce suit is pending...."

HOSPITAL PATIENT SHOT IN HASTINGS WOODS
"Foul play was doubted Wednesday by officials investigating the death of a 47 year old Hastings State Mental Hospital patient from Omaha. Rubin (Reuben) C. Straw son of Mrs Jessie Swantner...was found lying in a woods near the hospital Tuesday by another patient. He died about 4 pm the same day. A Wednesday autopsy revealed he had been killed by a .22 bullet...entered the side of his head and lodged in his brain....no sign of a struggle or a robbery at the scene. Mr Straw who had been committed in 1939...was a model patient...had freedom of the grounds. the body is being returned to Omaha where services are pending at Brewer-Kosrisko Mortuary. Survivors are his mother, sisters: Mrs W. W. Gill and Mrs Violet Fullerton both of Omaha, Mrs Mary D. Hankla and Mrs L. J. Pryor, both of Wilmington, CA and a brother Henry L. of Omaha."

"Adams County Attorney ____said no chages will be filed in the shooting of Reuben Straw...ballistics report showed Mr. Straw was "apparently" killed by a rifle fired by a 15 yr old. [the youth and one other boy had been in the woods and had been firing rifles at birds and targets and were unaware they had shot Mr Straw]
