Chandler Burpee Jr.GOFFSTOWN ? Chandler Burpee Jr., 82, died Monday, Jan. 24, 2005, following a lengthy illness.
Born in Philadelphia, he was the son of Chandler and Caroline (Bacon) Burpee. He had been a resident of Goffstown for the past 50 years.
Mr. Burpee graduated from Pennsylvania Charter Quaker School for Boys and Cornell University.
He was a veteran of World War II, having served as an ensign with the United States Navy.
Mr. Burpee had been employed as an industrial engineer with Raytheon for 30 years.
He was a member of the Goffstown Historical Society, Goffstown School Board and the Congregational Church of Goffstown, where he served as a deacon.
Mr. Burpee was a member of and served for several years as president of the New England Chapter Cornell University Alumni Association.
During his youth, Mr. Burpee spent many summers at Idlewhile Camp on Lake Winnipesaukee. He continued that tradition by spending time with his family at their summer residence of Lake Winni-pesaukee.
Family members include his wife, Anita W. Burpee of Goffstown; three daughters, Carol B. Manning of Manchester, Ann S. Burpee of Bedford, Texas, and Elizabeth B. ?Liza? Straw of Weare; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one brother, Frank H. Burpee of Concord.
French and Rising Funeral Home of Goffstown handled arrangements.

Chandler married Anita Wass. (Anita Wass was born circa 1925 in Machias, Maine and died on 11 Mar 2006 in Goffstown, Hillsborough County, New Hampshire.)
