The Salina Journal (Salina, Kansas) 06 Jul 1993, Tue Page 1 "According to information from a 1945 Edition of the Soloman Valley Tribune, the house was built by a George Dorflinger who immigrated by covered wagon to Kansas from Belleville, IL in 1862. He homesteaded a quarter section a half mile from the Smoky Hill River... the stone house might have been Dorflinger's second dwelling ....he had some men helping him shuck corn and heard him say he wanted to build a house.....the men were stonemasons from Missouri...apparently convinced Dorflinger to build his house out of stone.....the material came from Fort Harker [ a cavarly post decommisioned in the 1870s] near Kanopolis...shipped to Solomon...hauled by wagons to the building site
