"MOUND CITY, MO.-Jesse C. Porter, 85, prominent retired businessman and farmer, died Thursday at a St. Joseph hospital following a brief illness.
Mr. Porter, the son of DeWitt Clinton and Julia Fries Porter was born Nov. 16, 1888 on a farm north of Mound City. After attending high school he was a student at the University of Missouri for one year. He was involved in Tractor and Auto sales; erected and operated the Mound City Bottling Works; was vice-president and cashier of the Holt County Bank here, and later engaged in farming from which he retired three years ago.
Mr. Porter had lived his entire life in the Mound City area. He as a retired farmer and a member of the First Christian Church of Mound City. Mr. Porter was a member of the I.O.O.F. for 50 years and the Masonic Lodge at Mound City. He also was a member of the Scottish Rite and the Moila Temple in St. Joseph.
On June 30, 1918, he was married to Miss Mona Tyson, and they were the parents of one son, William Tyson Porter.
Mrs. Porter died June 20, 1968. He was also preceded in death by his parents; and four brothers, Donald, Clarence, Earl, and Floyd.
Survivors include one son, William T. Porter, and daughter-in-law, Jean, of Mound City; two granddaughters, Mona Jean and Amy Elaine Porter, Mound City; a niece, Mrs. Lucille Straw, Saratoga, Calif.; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Sydney Porter, Mound City; many other relatives and friends.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 25, in the Pettijohn & Crawford Chapel. The Rev. Jack Yates will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery."
