General Notes:
Research of James W. Straw- info about Wm Tyson Porter as forwarded by Amy Porter 120804 "William started college at Fayette, MO Central Col---High, rated small college about 120 miles east of KC...Missouri Univ at Colum is about 140 miles east of KC..Wm was taken into choir shortly after entering college. He was a very good friend of the director. The same man was director last year. We went to St. Jos two times when the choir went there and Wm was home. Wm sings at wedding, funerals, church...so many times he is asked but he can't help all. (One thing he don't show off in doing anything.)...At first he signed up for plane mechanic but that required college physics and trigonometry which he did not have so he continued in school summers. Wm was in service three years and at 9 locations...an instructor some of the time. He was trained as a turret gunner in the lower part of a plane and sent to Central California for crew assembly. Kept there for some time; finally word came that his type of plane was being discontinued...bachelor....quiet type..very devoted to his duties"
William married Jean Esther Liechti, daughter of Jacob Ernest Liechti and Blanch Elizabeth Euler, on 11 Sep 1955 in St. Joseph, Buchanan County, Missouri. (Jean Esther Liechti was born on 27 May 1928 in Wathena, Doniphan County, Kansas, died on 1 Oct 2013 in Overland Park in Johnson County, Kansas and was buried in Mount Hope Cemetery in Mound City, Holt County, Missouri.)
