Orville O. Brixey, 82, our husband, father, grandpa and friend, passed away Nov. 16, 2004.
His family was by his side. It will be impossible to fill the empty silence of stories told to family and friends of his many adventures or the smile he so often brought to us from one of his many jokes. Orville was a man of several talents and his fingers calloused from his love of playing the guitar. He put his love of animals and nature into his beautifully detailed carving and paintings. He could make any object from ceramic tile to a tree branch come to life with his imagination and skill. Orville passed on his hobby of fishing to his son and grandson, spending many hours casting out hoping to catch 'the big one.' He also gave them the craft of flying remote-controlled airplanes, working late into the night on a plane to be ready for an early flight test.
Many awards were won by all three during the span of a 30-year hobby; more important are the lifelong memories of fun times spent with Dad/Grandpa. A look into his eyes gave you a glimpse of his heart; it was a heart full of kindness, compassion and sometimes a little mischief. Life was full for Orville and he leaves his family with the memories of being a loving husband of 51 years to Darlene; a father who showed his son, Orville Jr., and daughter, Brenda, how a person's love can be shown in something as simple as a song, 'You are my sunshine.' And last, showing one's grandson, Terry, that love comes in many forms. The one Terry will remember most came in the form of a tall, old, curly-haired, blue-eyed country music-playing cowboy who loved to play his guitar, carve wood, fly airplanes, fish, and tell stories to make you smile. His name was Grandpa. All our love goes with him.
Orville's family would like to thank Dr. Banman and his medical staff. During the past week, he was given loving care by hospice, Dr. Pankratz, Josephine and Joseph. We thank you.
Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 20, at Pierce Bros. Santa Paula Cemetery.
