OBIT - Nov 1915 , Mound City, Holt County, Missouri
Edgar Earle Miller was born in Dotham, Atchison County, Missouri on November 4th, 1884 being one of a pair of twins, the twin brother having died in infancy. With his parents he moved to Mound City, and attended the Mound City grade school as well as the high school. Manifesting an inclination to enter in his father's profession, he took up the study of medicine; and graduated from Ensworth Hospital, St Joseph, Missouri in the spring of 1904, not quite twenty-one years of age. after his graduation he enlisted in the Hospital Corp of the United States Army, and was first stationed at the Presidio, San Francisco, California. He was subsequently transferred to Fort Harrison, Helena, Montana, and then to Fort Snelling, Minnesota. Receiving an honorable discharge, he began practicing medicine in Craig, Mo. A little later he moved to Santa Rosa, Mo., and then to Stewartsville, this state, remaining there until his unfortunate illness. A career that gave every indication of being one of great brilliancy and usefulness was diverted from its normal pathway by that great misfortune which overtook him, one of the mysteries of life which we must leave for its unfolding and understanding to the great heart of our Father. a number of years, every intention that science and loving hearts could render was given him. Growing stronger in body it was hoped that eventually the weakened and impaired nerves would recover a measure of their own strength. So much better had he become that Dr Miller was accorded many privileges in the institution where he was. Standing in the doorway in front of the building it is said that on the afternoon of his death, bidding good-bye to his parents who had just visited him, this improved condition was noticed and commented upon by those in attendance. After seeing his parents depart, Dr. Miller walked through the building to the rear door and slipping out, started away from the grounds. His absence was soon observed and attendants immediately started in pursuit of him, but before they were able to locate him, a Burlington train overtook him and so injured him that he died in the Sisters Hospital the following morning on the anniversary of his birth, Nov. 4th. Miller was married on the 20th of Oct., 1907 to Miss Grace Thomas of Mound City. To this marriage was born one child, on August 9, 1910, Edgar Earle Miller. Both the wife and child survived him, also his parents, Dr and Mrs J.W. Miller and two brothers, Doctors R.R. and M.M.
