"Joseph Fries was born January 14, 1859, in Sullivan County, New York, and departed from this life December 3, 1942, at the age of 83 years, 10 months and 19 days.
He was the fifth child of George and Minnie Buntz Fries. Four brothers and two sisters have preceded him in death. Surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Julia Porter of Mound City, Mo., and Mrs. Lucy Stewart of Colorado Springs, Colo.
His early life was spent in New York State leaving there at the age of thirteen to settle with his parents on a farm in Holt county near Oregon, Mo., where he lived until his marriage when he moved to the present neighborhood.
On April 14, 1992, he was united in marriage to Christina Fox who preceded him in death April 14, 1937. To this union were born five children: George of Lewiston, Montana, Mrs. Marvin Heck of Omaha, Neb., Mrs. J.W. Bowness and Fred C. of Mound City, Mo. Frank F. passed away at the age of thirty-one. He also leaves six grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.
He was baptized into the Lutheran faith when a child.
To those who knew and loved Mr. Fries, he will always be though of as a very kind and thoughtful person, willing to help others when in need. He loved youth and was always of a cheerful happy disposition.
Funeral services were held at the new Liberty church at 2 o'clock Sunday, December 6, 1942, by the Rev. S.A. Whyson, pastor of the Presbyterian Church at Fairfax. Interment was in New Liberty Cemetery."
