LATHAM -- Peter J. Galvin, 77, died suddenly on Sunday, December 5, 2004 at his home.
Born in Albany on June 6, 1927, he was the only child of the late Jack and Sylvia Rapp Galvin and remained a lifelong area resident. He was educated in Catholic schools in Albany, leaving high school so he could serve his country in the Army in World War II and the Korean War. During his time in the service, he received many awards including the Army of Occupation Medal and the World War II Victory Medal.
After an honorable discharge from service, Peter was employed by GAF in Rensselaer for many years and later at Normanskill Diary as a milkman. In 1976, Peter founded Galvin Courier Service in Latham, a delivery company he ran for the next 26 years until he retired in 2002. In his spare time, he enjoyed bowling and was a member of the Albany Bowling Association Hall of Fame after having bowled numerous 300 games. Peter was a member of the North Albany Post 1610 of the American Legion and the VFW as a national member at large.
He was the beloved father of Linda (Bill) Gauvin of Guilderland, Nancy (Vince) Florio of Summit, N.Y., Peter Jr. (Georgette) Galvin of Altamont, John Galvin of Schenectady, Michael Galvin of East Greenbush, Mary (Robert) LaMay of Colonie, Sue (Frank) Impellizzeri of Schenectady, James (Andrea Commarto) Galvin of Rotterdam, George Galvin of Rotterdam, William (Judy) Galvin of East Greenbush, Charles (Lisa) Galvin of Esperance and Danette (Mark) DeCoste of Clifton Park; 25 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Peter was predeceased by his wife, Dolores Hubert Galvin; their infant daughter, Deborah Galvin; and his long time companion, Elizabeth Tibby.
Funeral service will be on Friday at 9:30 a.m. from Parker Bros. Memorial Funeral Home, 2013 Broadway, Watervliet and at 11:00 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church, Bradt Street in Schenectady where a Mass of Christian Burial will be offered. Interment will follow in Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery in Niskayuna Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m.

I am the youngest of Peter's 13 children. He married Dolores Hubert and had 12 children - 1 (dau) passed away when she was a baby - Dolores his wife died 7/11/65 - he met my mom Elizabeth Tibby b11/20/41 d2/28/99 - and they only had 1 child - me Dee DeCosta I am 43 now.
