Byron Bruce Boone was born Jan. 10, 1897, three miles east of Tarkio. His parents east of Tarkio. His parents were Arthur and Nannie Youel Boone. He died at the ST. Joseph Health Center in Kansas City Oct. 20, 1989 at the age of 92 years, 9 months, 10 days.
Byron attended Walkup grove rural school. He served in the U.S. Army in World War I and has been a farmer all his life. When he was 2 years ago, his parents moved to the farm where he lived east of Fairfax for 90 years and just two years ago went to live at a nursing home in Kansas City.
He married Minnie Fries on June 1, 1918 and to this union were born and two daughters.
He was a member of the Pleasant View Presbyterian Church and the American Legion; and served on the Daleview School board for 8 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife in 1983 and a daughter, Juanita Helen Boon Shaw in 1979.
Survivors include one daughter, Patricia R. Hurley of Kansas City; one brother, James M. Boone, Lincolnville Beach, Maine; 6 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at the Pleasant View Presbyterian Church Monday morning, conducted by Rev. Alex Horvath. Interment was in the New Liberty Cemetery near Mound City.
Pallbearers were Bob Irvine, Harold Browning, Junior Hawkins, H.Q. Gomel, Joe Bowness, Phil Bowness. Honorary pallbearers were H.B. Gomel, Harold Volker, Richard Thiesfeld, Darrell Jones, Phil Close and Ed Ball.
Margaret Graves, vocalist, sang "Amazing Grace" and "Just a Closer Walk with Thee," accompanied by Mrs. Tom Kent.
