research of J. Therkildsen on www.rootsweb.com-
Ebenezer and Priscilla separation noted in court documents dated 1832-1838 - Supreme Court of Ohio for the County of Champaign. In May 18, 1832 Supreme Court of the State of Ohio -- Champaign County -- documents, Priscilla claims that "criminal correspondence and adulterous intercourse between the said Ebenezer Culver and Susannah Bebee were consummated by their marriage on or about the nineteenth day of November last past that soon after their marriage they moved to the county of Crawford in this state where they now reside living and cohabitating together as man and wife in a state of adultery." Ebenezer' s September 6, 1832 answer agrees with Priscilla that the ceremony occurred in Virginia, but he claims his marriage to Priscilla was "wholy void" and that he believes Priscilla "was never his lawful wife". Both of their court documents note and name their 10 children. [11 children noted for the couple, but Benjamin is believed to have died young -- though numbers in the 1820 census seem to include him (shows 8 male children and 3 female children -- which would include Deborah Smith from Priscilla's first marriage. Youngest Priscilla Irene wouldn't have been born yet in 1820). (more about "separation" proceedings in CULVER book by M. Virginia Mills, 1988)]
