Earl Alton PersonsPublished on 3/8/2006BRANT LAKE -- Earl Alton Persons, 94, died Sunday, March 5, 2005, at his winter residence in Eden Gardens, Inverness, Fla.
Born Aug. 3, 1911, in Brant Lake, he was the son of the late Smith and Anna (Hill) Persons.
Mr. Persons was a winter resident of Inverness for 27 years.
He attended Horicon Schools and Chestertown High School.
From 1934-1944 he served as district clerk for the Horicon Central School. In 1942 he served as New York State Game Protector, and following his World War II tour of duty in the U.S. Navy, he served another term of district clerk for Horicon Central School from 1947-1957. From 1957-1963 Mr. Persons was town supervisor for the town of Horicon and from 1963-1974 he served as director of Real Property Tax for Warren County.
He was a member of the Brant Lake Wesleyan Church.
Mr. Persons was predeceased by his wife, Blanche Meade Persons; one son, Earl Persons; one daughter, Sally Persons; two grandsons, Gregory Joseph and Brian Persons; three sisters, Mabel Peterson, Lula Hays and Marjorie Baker; and one brother, Kenneth Persons.
Survivors include two sons, Ross Persons and his wife, Freda, of Lakehurst, N.J., and Stephen Persons and his wife, Hilda, of Owego; three daughters: Susan Joseph and her husband, Ronald, of Pinehurst, N.C., Melissa Ward and her husband, Donald, of Wilmington, N.C., and Margaret Reilly and her husband, James, of Pottstown, Pa.; nine grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be announced in the spring.
Funeral arrangements entrusted to Barton-McDermott Funeral Home, 9 Pine St., Chestertown.
