research of Brian Eachus on genforum message board - Eachus is an English name, I have traced it back to 1304 in Minshull Vernon,Cheshire England. it comes from a norman word "Ecel" which means a piece of land added to an estate. the piece of land being Old Hoolgrave and the estate being the Kinnerton Estate. The lane down to the farm at Old hoolgrave is still called Eachus Lane (I asked the post man) The field at the bottom left of the lane is called Eachus field and was written as Eachus plan in 1304. We is only one family in the world called Eachus. we have NO German connection.

Samuel Eachus
Aged 55 in the census taken October 17, 1850 in Jackson county, Illinois. Was born in Pennsylvania about 1795. – He and his wife had seven children born in Virginia between 1817 and 1830.
The 1840 Census in Jackson Country, Illinois indicates that he and his family were living there. Samuel and Mary moved in about 1855 or 56 to Henry Country (Jefferson Township), Iowa to be near three of their sons—David, William and James and their families. Mary died and Samuel moved to live with his son James in Wayland, Iowa in 1856. He went with the Eachus brothers on the 1865 trip. Everett Eachus of Carmichael writes to Herbert Brandson Eachus in 1959 that his grandfather died about 1885 in Los Gatos, Santa Clara Country, California and was approximately 85-90 years old.
Samuel Eachus may have gone with his son Benjamin to California than 1865. Benjamin Eachus was already residing near Red Bluffs when the three brothers, James, David and William came west to California in 1865. James stayed with William on 20 Sep 1865 for two days following the five month trip from Iowa.
