Richard F. Daiber

NEVADA - Richard F. Daiber died at 6:10 p.m. Oct. 11, 2006 at Marion General Hospital. He was 74.
Born on Jan. 22, 1932, in Tod Township in Crawford County, he was a son of Frank and Edith (Reiter) Daiber. He married Joyce Heinlen on Aug. 30, 1952 in Nevada Lutheran Church. She survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Chuck and Jerry, both of Nevada; one daughter, Debbie Kellogg, Nevada; five grandchildren, Jason Daiber, Marion; Julie Daiber, Marion; Shandell Dilgard, Bloomville; and Shannon and Shawn Dunlap, both of Nevada; two stepgrandchildren, Ben Fadley, Toledo; and Nick Fadley, Bucyrus; three great-great-grandchildren, Keris, Cameron and Shelbi Dilgard, all of Bloomville and one sister KATHRYN ROWSE of Sycamore.
He was preceded in death by five brothers, Clarence, L.W. "Bill," Cletus, Paul and Raymond; and two sisters, Iva Daiber and Mary Knappenberger.
Mr. Daiber graduated from Nevada High School in 1949. He had served in the National Guard.
He owned and operated Daiber Excavating in Nevada for 40 years before retiring in 1997. He continued to help part time after his son, Chuck, took over running the business. He was also water superintendent for the village of Nevada for 26 years.
Mr. Daiber was of the Lutheran faith. He was also a 50-year member of the Nevada Lodge No. 343 F&AM and a former member of the Nevada Volunteer Fire Department. He enjoyed landscaping and working on his water garden, model railroads and spending time with his family.
The funeral is 11 a.m. Saturday at Lucas Batton Funeral Home in Nevada with the Rev. Robert Hamilton officiating. Burial is at Nevada Cemetery. Visitation is from 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. today at the funeral home. A masonic service will be held at 6:30 tonight at the funeral home.
