Parish Family tree on www.rootsweb.com - Clara Bell Straw Booth married Charles Parker Pool when she was 27 years old and he was a 71 year old Civil War veteran. They married in Fayetteville, Arkansas in 1915. He lost his leg in the war and used crutches for the rest of his life. He Fathered five children, Charles Thomas, Ernest John, Florence , William and Garland. Mr. Pool lived an active life and loved his garden up until he was 85. Clara had four other children by her first marriage to Clyde J. Booth. They were Golda, Glen, Viola and James.

Charles Parker Pool was born in Ritchie County, West Virginia to Thomas and Anne Pool. He was in the Civil War and served in Co.D the 6th West Virginia Infantry Regiment. He was shot in the left leg which had to be amputated above the knee. He never spoke of the Civil War, he put it behind him and moved on. He first married Evalin Dotson 2-17-1867 in Adair County, Missouri. Don't know what happened to her, but in December of 1868 Charles married Martha "Mattie" A. Dobbs. Daughter of Patrick Dobbs born Virginia and Elizabeth "Lizzie" Evie born Virginia. Mattie was born 11-29-1840 in Virginia and died 5-26-1912 in Carroll, Texas County, Missouri. Charles and Mattie lived in Oak Side,Shannon County, Missouri. Mattie is buried in Oakside Cemetery along with an infanty grandson, the child of John Williams and Etta Pool-William's. Charles and Mattie had 3 children, 1 unknown died before 1880, Mary 1871 and Etta 1873. Only Etta lived to adulthood and married John Williams in Missouri, they later moved to Kansas. After the death of Mattied, Charles married Clara Bell Straw-Booth on 8-15-1915 in Fayetteville, Arkansas. She was 27 and he was 71. Clara was the daughter of William Jackson Straw and Elizabeth Jane Kettner. Clara was born 7-24-1889 Nevada, Story County, Iowa. Her family and death record has 7-24-1888 Polk County, Missouri but the Iowa state birth record has her right date and place of birth. The Straw family moved to Polk County after 1895 from Navada, Iowa. Clara lived until 5-9-1990. After Charles died she retruned to Wishart, Polk County, Missouri where her brother and sister lived. She is buried there in the Enon Cemetery with them and a number of other relatives. Clara is on record as being the last person in the state of Missouri to receive a Civil War pension Clara first married Clyde J. Booth on 9-9-1905 in Kansas. They had 4 children; Golda "Goldie" 1906, Glenn 1907, Viola 1909 and James 1911 all in Kansas. Charles and Clara were the parents of 5 children, Charles Thomas Pool 1916, Ernest John Pool 1918, Florence Pool 1922, William "Bill" Pool 1925 and Garland Pool 1927. Charles Thomas died in 1944 and is buried with his father in this cemetery. The rest are still alive and living in Missouri. Charles Parker Pool loved to garden. He always had his over all pockets full of seeds and a stick. When he found an empty spot in his garden he would poke a hole with the stick and drop in a seed. He planted and kept a garden until he was 85 years old. He would sit down and scoot backwards in his gardens and hoe in front of him as he went. The Pool home in Washington County, Arkansas is now part of Devil's Den Park. The headstone for Charles T. Pool is Charles P. Pool's son Charles Thomas Pool.
